This is how to draw Supergirl.
Over on the Drawingboard.org forums an 18 year old by the handle of Johnny Lightning drew a couple of pictures of Supergirl. Fantastic pictures. He gave me permission to post them and you'll see why I desparately wanted to;
Aren't those just exactly what Supergirl should be? She's strong, confident and standing in a classic and powerful pose. She's wearing a uniform instead of a stripper costume and those gloves...I love that. Gloves mean business. Heck, she's even got a practical streak and has pulled her hair up out of her face. Johnny said, "I tried giving her a
touch of my own personal style of female anatomy." Johnny, I just have to say that I wish most comic book artists had your style. Your version of Supergirl is now the standard I'll be carrying around in my head to judge all the other versions by.
Please don't hesitate to leave adoring comments for him here. He deserves our encouragement.

Excellent depiction of Supergirl! Unlike the Churchill-drawn version, she looks like her legs will actually support her (and generate considerable power).
It's brilliant because it makes a lot of sense to envision SG as a field hockey/rugby player with an athletic body-type, rather than as a spindly (though large-breasted) near-adolescent cheerleader.
He's got some more Supergirl sketches on the thread I've linked to and they're even better.
Nice work on Supergirl! I also enjoy the hairstyle that's attractive, while at the same time out of her eyes. It's apparently impossible to get most comic artists to NOT draw a superheroine with long, flowing (and immensely impractical in a fight) hair.
My one complaint is - why carry on the stupid tradition of Superman's wearing his briefs on the outside of his pants...?

Oh, man, that is the most badass Supergirl EVER. Truly worthy of her name and franchise.
Isn't she great?
As for the underwear, she could beat the crap out of any of us. She can where her underwear however she wants. :)
uh...wear, not where. whoops.
Nice stuff...his style reminds me of Chris Sprouse.
Dawn, brace yourself - Newsarama did a "point/counterpoint" link between this post and Shelly's disagreeing w/it.
BTW, I'm finally using my blog while Tammy and I are travelling,

Thanks Tim! Whoo Hoo! Even if I post something that most people think is dead wrong I love it when it stirs up some discussion.
I'll put a link in for your blog too.
This stuff is wonderful! Kudos to Johnny. This is so much more creative and great to look at than the tramp she currently is.
As a mommy of a little superhero crazed girl, I can't praise this enough. The boobage is a bit large, but well, comicbook super heroines have never been on the average to real-life size. And the way he works the boobs in with the all around package it's not that smutty slut that's staring out of every comic of late. This is high caliber artistry.
The pony tail is a stroke of skill and quite bold to do. It fits her to a T! And the muscular frame is so much more desireable than the anorexic looks she's been sporting for such a long time.
Fabulous work. I can only wait to see his hame up in inks. Considering I stoped reading comics with the Vision and Scarlet Witch era at an end, this could get me to dig my super heros again. This young man has some great talent at his disposal, thanks so much for finding him and highlighting him.
